In the context of the European Cooperation Day, the Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg IPA CBC Greece Albania 2014-2020 will hold an awareness event at the island of Zakynthos, highlighting the implementation of the project Climate-Smart Coastal Practices for Blue governance”-BLUECOAST.
In the morning, every person on the island can join the local main beneficiary “Zakynthos National Marine Park” who will organise a volunteer cleaning of the seaside at Limni Keriou with the support of Management Agency of Zakynthos National Marine Park, NGO and Civil Society Organisations and with the intention to raise environmental awareness.
The same morning and subject to availability, there also will be a public excavation of a sea turtle nest at Marathonisi beach, an action that makes the public familiar with the importance of the monitoring of biodiversity and will underline the importance of one of the specific objectives of the Programme (increase the effectiveness of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources).
In the evening, join the members of the Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the Programme at the main square of Zakynthos (Plateia Solomou) to:
- explore the life of Caretta Caretta and find out activities to maintain and protect some of the major habitats in the Mediterranean for the loggerhead sea turtle in the light of climatic change, under the activities of a cross-border cooperation project between Greece and Albania (BlueCoast).
- Enjoy the Photo Exhibition on Climate-Smart Coastal Practices for Blue Governance
- Watch the video installation of sea turtle protection activities implemented via BlueCoast cross border project
- Be amused by the sounds of Zakynthos traditional music
